Designing a Well Organized Mudroom For Your Illinois Home

However, in many households many of these areas end up becoming a dumping ground or a junk room.  The whole purpose of having a place to put things when you walk in the door is defeated.  So why is that?  In many instances the mudroom was just created without a lot of thought.  

Mudrooms are intended to be a transition zone in the house.  It is meant to be a space between the outdoors and the rest of the house.  Their purpose is to help keep the rest of the house clean and organized.  It’s important that when designing a mudroom to ask yourself certain questions.

Questions to ask

  • How many individuals will be using the mudroom?
  • Are you going to have an area for your pet?
  • Do you live in a place where there is lots of mud and dirt that can be tracked in?
  • What items do you want to store in your mudroom such as keys, coats, or sporting equipment?
  • Where will your mudroom be located?
  • Will you be storing mobile devices?
  • How much space do you have for your mudroom?
  • Will it be combined with your laundry room?
