brakur_retro_kitchenIf you are a homeowner who loves nostalgia you might want to consider a retro kitchen style.  A retro kitchen is a culturally outdated trend or fashion from the post-modern look that has crept back into design.  Retro kitchens are a blast from the past.  They are full of personality and have the perfect combination of past and modern style. Designers are using décor and prints of the past to add color to contemporary spaces.

There is some discussion on what retro is or is not.  The general consensus is that it is any furniture piece that could be considered vintage. Many modern appliances today are recreations of these past pieces. Regardless, they typically pick an era to resemble such as the 50’s with a cottage-chic look or trend more toward the 70’s and 80’s.

Elements of a Retro Kitchen

  • Wood cabinets
  • Bolder and brighter colors such as red, orange and black
  • Pendant lighting
  • Checked patterns
  • Exposed pipes
  • Stainless steel or colored appliances
  • Glossy surfaces
  • Not always but usually have a theme such as Coca-Cola

If you are looking for a way to create memories and a kitchen that will generate conversation it is worth looking into this style.  It can make for a great place to entertain and have an inviting atmosphere.  While not all the elements may appeal you can incorporate what you do love to give your kitchen that perfect custom look.
