countertop-stoolsAre you interested in opening up a whole new world when it comes to your cabinetry? Custom painted cabinetry is a great option to consider.

In part 1 of this post, we overviewed some general details regarding custom painted cabinetry – from color choices to lead time, cost difference and more; but if you’re like most homeowners considering this type of project, you’d probably like to know some good old fashioned pros and cons to help you make your choice. See below:

Custom Painted Cabinetry Pros

Aside from the obvious benefit of having thousands of color options to choose from, there are many additional positives – for instance:

  • Consistency and control - for customers that don't want the natural variation of wood grains and stained finishes, custom painted cabinetry will often give a more consistent, even look. It also allows for much control over the finished look.
  • Flexibility – The right color can help you improve the look of your space and even make a room look larger (or smaller…if that’s what you’re going for).
  • More options – Get the exact look you’re going for, and open up a whole new world of options when it comes to complimenting your countertops and appliance selections.
  • Low maintenance – Everyday upkeep remains relatively simple with these easy-to-clean, durable cabinets.

Custom Painted Cabinetry Cons

While the list of negatives is short, here’s what we generally find:

  • Touch ups – When you get the urge to change your hardware, it can be more of a process to match the fill for nail holes. This goes for general touch ups for nicks and scratches as well, should they appear.
  • Price – We can’t speak for all projects, but generally speaking, custom painted cabinets run a slightly higher price tag than their stained counterparts.
  • Timeframe - Extra time might be necessary to prepare custom samples.
  • Natural aging - Customers need to know about visible seams at the joints of five-piece doors and face frame joints.  Over time, due to natural expansion and contraction, seams may develop hairline fractures. Ask your expert about the aging process of your desired cabinets.
