brakur glass mosaics.jpgYou’ve seen in so many kitchens stainless steel or other popular materials for appliances. They stand out, look nice and professional, and make a statement. A new trend seeks to make less of a statement and streamline your kitchen by hiding some of those appliances.

Range hoods are very common kitchen component. Many people currently are hiding their range hood in their cabinets or walls. Why?

A concealed range hood helps your focus stay on the kitchen cabinetry, instead of interrupting it. In a small kitchen, it looks less cluttered when hidden. It also helps you keep continuity of your sleek look from your cabinets.

There are many ways to integrate your range hood into your cabinetry.

  • Ensure you get the kind of hood designed to be integrated. Not all are.
  • Conceal the hood inside of a cabinet. This may be tucked up under a cabinet so the only visible part is what’s on the bottom of the upper cabinet.
  • Slide-out hoods can be built into the cabinetry as well and only the front edge of the slide out section is visible.
  • Above island hoods can be installed when the cooktop is in the island, although some dislike the bold look of a hood connected to the ceiling over an island.
  • Hoods can be installed in your ceiling and flush with the ceiling. These are generally more expensive since they need to be more powerful being farther away.
  • A downdraft exhaust system is an elegant way to hide the unit when not in use. When in use, it rises out of the space behind your cooktop and goes back in as needed.

Your building codes will dictate if you must have a range hood, depending on your ventilation quality. Click here to read more about hiding your range hood.
