brakur_-_low_maintenance_bathroomIf you ask most homeowners, cleaning a bathroom most likely is not at the top of their list of things they enjoy doing.  However most of them will agree there is nothing better than a sparkling clean bathroom. Especially with today’s bathrooms many of them have become a retreat.  It’s not uncommon to see living room touches added to the bathrooms.  So the question is how do you get a bathroom that is clutter free and easy to maintain and clean?  We have helped design a few bathrooms over the years and we thought we would share our top 5 tips for a lower maintenance bathroom.

5 Tips for a Low Maintenance Bathroom

  1. Limit or get rid of the grout lines - Grout lines tend to collect the most grime and mildew.  You can select larger tiles or consider eliminating them altogether by using seamless stones such as granite or marble.  If you are set on using a smaller tile use it in one area of the bathroom that won’t need as much cleaning.
  2. Use solid surfaces – Some of the most common solid surfaces used in the bathroom are stone, glass and marble.  These materials resist bacteria and in most cases are stain resistant. Solid surfaces allow you to easily and quickly wipe down surfaces.
  3. Utilize storage options – There are many space saving storage ideas for the bathroom. Having a place to put everything such as laundry and hair dryers will help eliminate a lot of the chaos that can sometimes happen. Not to mention it will make your bathroom safer.
  4. Simplify your shower – It doesn’t take long for soap scum to build up in the shower.  Try a seamless shower that connects with the floor. Open it up and eliminate the need for glass. If you are set on glass doors, consider a frameless glass shower door or a glass coating that will help repel water and soap scum.
  5. Use wall mounted bathroom fixtures – Dust tends to settle or collect around cabinets and bathroom figures. Consider using a floating vanity or a toilet with skirted sides.  No one likes reaching around and cleaning those hard to get to places.
