White kitchens are definitely in and something many people want to include in their kitchen remodel. They are versatile and never seem to go out of style. They add light to the room and can make a small kitchen look larger than it really is.
When they are first installed they look absolutely beautiful. But over time if you don’t do a little preventive maintenance and regular cleaning those white cabinets may not stay so white. You don’t have to go overboard to keep your kitchen white, but here are some tips so that a little precautionary attention will keep your white kitchen white for years to come.
Tips for Keeping Cabinets White
- Prevent yellowing - Cabinets can yellow over time due to direct sunlight exposure. You will want to use either a window film or some kind of blinds to counteract the direct sunlight.
- Use a range hood with an exhaust fan - Adequately ventilate your kitchen to help filter the air from the moisture and grease that result when cooking. These pollutants can discolor your cabinets.
- Clean cabinets monthly - It doesn’t have to take a lot of time but a quick wipe down with the right cleaning solution will preserve the color and finish of your cabinets. Don’t allow spills to sit and clean up immediately especially those things that can soak into the wood or white countertops.
- Choose low maintenance countertops – There are a variety of countertop options that resist stains such as quartz.
- Choose a quality cabinet – Who you buy your cabinets from will make a big difference. Here at Brakur we apply a minimum of two coats of paint with an additional top coat. We recommend using a tight grained lumber such as maple.
