We all know the effect and value remodeling a kitchen can have on not only the look, but value of a home. When updating or building a new home people don’t always consider all the different places in the home that cabinets can be used in addition to the bathroom and the kitchen. Now more than ever cabinets have been made to look more like furniture and can be used in pretty much any room of the house. We wanted to share with you a few ideas to help you make the most of your home renovations.
Ideas for Cabinets Outside the Kitchen
Mudrooms - Almost every home you walk in today can be found with some type of mudroom. If someone doesn’t have one it is not that hard to create a space or place for one. People need to have a place to drop and put away things when they get home. Try a shoe bench with shoe storage, cubbies, or a backpack/coat rack for the kids.
Home Entertainment Centers- Families spend a lot of time together using entertainment. No one wants to look at those unsightly cords. You can really class it up with the right look by creating a built in entertainment center. No need to find a generic entertainment center from a furniture store and hope it’s got the right dimensions. You can build it to fit your equipment perfectly by using cabinets.
Home offices- With more and more people working from home the need for a home office has increased. Why not have a stylish office to work in that also hides all the files and paperwork that come with it. Kids even need a place to do homework where they can use technology. Whether it is a technology center in the kitchen, bedroom, or a wide hallway in the house you can put it where it will add to, not detract, from the look of the house.
Bedrooms- A popular trend is using cabinets for a built-in toy box. Or maybe your teenager wants that padded window seat. It gives your kids a place to store their stuff and adds character to the room. You might even create that custom closet with a variety of shelves and cubbies. An added bonus is their rooms stay a lot cleaner too!
Laundry Rooms- People have always put a couple of cabinets in the laundry room but there is so much more that can be done. You might consider a utility closet for the cleaning supplies or vacuum, or a cabinet to store your iron and ironing board. If you have a room big enough, put a sink in to soak those extra dirty clothes. You might even consider doubling up and using your laundry room as a mudroom as well.
Home Libraries - Reading is a favorite pastime for many. Gone are the days of the formal living rooms. More and more people are creating home libraries instead.
