With all the hype of using energy efficient appliances you have probably started to hear a lot about induction cooktops. Some people are familiar with them and some have no idea what they are or how they really work.
In today’s world we are always looking for energy efficient ways to cook and save our natural resources. We are also looking for ways to save on those electric and gas bills. Many energy efficient appliances can almost pay for themselves in those first few years by what you are saving on your bills. There are also tax credits and rebates offered to help offset the cost of them.
What is Induction Cooking?
Induction cooking is one of the safest methods for cooking since it doesn’t use direct heat. Instead it uses electromagnets in the cooktop to generate a magnetic field between the magnetic cookware (ex: stainless steel) and the stovetop. As a result of the magnetic field that is created, the heat is transferred to the cookware. It heats up the air around the pot or pan. Since no direct heat is applied to the cooking surface, it is cool to the touch. Only the cookware is hot to the touch. It also heats up quite quickly. Turning up or down the heat is instantaneous.
Induction cooktops look great too! They look very similar to a glass cooktop and usually come in monolithic black slabs. They are perfect for giving your kitchen an updated and contemporary look.
Although these are great cooktops, they are not cheap. Depending on the cooktop you choose it can increase the budgeted amount of your kitchen remodel, so we recommend you do your research before committing to one of these and go with a reputable brand.
