While nobody likes germs, there are many places in the kitchen that germs can accumulate and build up. While there are many cleaners out there that will kill the bacteria, they will also ruin the finish on your cabinets and countertops. It’s important that you learn what products are safe to use on your countertops and new cabinets. Taking care of your kitchen will give you a kitchen that will look new for years.
How to Care for Your Countertops
Not all countertops are created equal. The proper maintenance varies depending on the material. For most countertops just warm water with a gentle dish soap will do the trick. You never want to use harsh or abrasive cleaners such as window cleaner or anything that is bleach or ammonia based. These cleaners will weaken or dull the finish or seal if you have granite countertops. We discourage the use of sponges as they can hold and spread bacteria. We recommend using a microfiber towel. Clean up spills immediately. There are also counter polish cleaners that are available that can be used on a weekly basis.
How to Care for Your Cabinets
Caring for your cabinets is the most important thing you can do and will allow them to look new for years. DO NOT use products such as “Old English”, “Pledge”, “Endust” or any wax products. These cleaners will cause a chemical reaction and dull or ruin the finish of a beautiful cabinet. They do irreparable damage. Avoid harsh soaps and abrasive cleaners. Never hang a damp towel over a wood cabinet to dry. We suggest using a lint free cloth such a microfiber to avoid scratches. It is also important to note that different finishes require different care. To learn how to fully care for your new custom Brakur cabinets you can click here.
