There is a difference. 

When you think of comparing contractor to a plumber it is a similar relationship.  A contractor will oversee all aspects of the remodeling project, but doesn’t necessarily do all the work himself because he is not an expert.  An interior designer will coordinate and work with kitchen designer, but they are not the expert when it comes to kitchen design.  Interior designers are more concerned with the overall aesthetics, colors, and flow of the home.
