Spring is finally here. Nice, warm, blossoming spring. This time of year, you can not help but to be in a
good mood. It is the perfect time to destress by decluttering and emptying the cleaning backlog that you
have had for the past year. For many homeowners, an overcrowded pantry or unorganized cabinets can
be major points of stress that they want to remove. Regardless of what you are cleaning, here are some
spring-cleaning tips to keep you smiling through the sunshine.
1. Plan A Specific Day
When beginning spring-cleaning you want to plan a specific day. If you begin cleaning on a whim or
whenever you get a small dose of free time you might end up overwhelming yourself with all that needs
to be cleaned. A scheduled cleaning day helps you set aside the time needed and avoids distractions or
interruptions. If it is going to take multiple days, plan for cleaning room by room. With a broken down in
advance plan, you can ensure everything gets done that needs to.
2. Make Sure You Are Prepared
You want to be prepared when the day comes to get down to cleaning. Planning is great but if you do
not have the necessary supplies then you will not be able to get everything done. For your kitchen and
bathroom, you want to have the correct supplies stocked for cleaning cabinets, countertops, and floors.
Double check with cabinet manufacturers to make sure you use the correct cleaning materials to avoid
damage. See our “Tips for Cabinet Maintenance” article for more information.
3. Make a Checklist
Make a checklist in order to stay on top of everything that needs to be done. If it is a multiple day
undertaking, make a different list for each day of cleaning. This will allow you to pace yourself keeping
on top of each task and making sure the days chores are completed. Without a checklist you may forget
one of the many tasks of the day. Some of you may have excellent memory but it is always great to write
it down just in case.
4. Do Not Forget to Deep Clean
Deep cleaning is important in making your home feel refreshing and relaxing. If you ignore deep cleaning
these things can come back and be problems later. Do not forget that maintenance is included in deep
cleaning. Maintaining your countertops, cabinets, and flooring are all part of deep cleaning. If you do not
maintain your kitchen and bathroom surfaces, damage can develop over time. Keep your home looking
new and sparkling by taking care of your home properly.
