Sometimes it’s interesting to see where we’ve come from when we look at today’s “hub-of-the-home” kitchens. Today the kitchen is where we gather, where we eat, where we entertain, where we plan, where we socialize, and where we coordinate. Even where we work!
It wasn’t always this way. Early Chicagoland kitchens were not fun places to be. Hard work, heat, smells and even danger accompanied early kitchens. That’s why there was a historical trend of putting the dining room between the kitchen and living areas to act as a barrier to create more distance from it.
