It’s always fun (and important) for kitchen and bath professionals to take a look at what is trending from time to time. Occasionally, you’ll see something wild for bit, but it is always refreshing to see tasteful trends, those that will be around for a while.
We’re happy to announce what we’ve seen trending lately when it comes to cabinetry:
Clean Lines in Every Way
One trend that has affected every style of kitchen is the move towards simple, clean lines in cabinet design. Even the traditional designs have started incorporating more clean lines and less ornate detailing, and the simple designs are showing up in every aspect of the cabinet.
Recessed Panels
One of the biggest trends driving the clean line movement is the popularity of recessed panel doors. More and more, homeowners and designers are choosing the look of Shaker and other style recessed panel doors to give their kitchens a little sophistication with a hint of modern design.
Sleek Hardware
These clean-lined doors are bringing sleek decorative hardware into the mainstream as well. The simple styling of recessed panel doors is complimented by sleek, long-stem handles and pulls; often made of stainless steel. Integrated handles that are designed as part of the cabinet doors themselves are another move amongst consumers. They create even cleaner more simple lines in a kitchen design, and have a strong modern touch.
Environmentally Friendly Cabinets
As sustainability becomes more important in our everyday lives the demand for environmentally friendly cabinetry continues to grow as well. In an industry that uses natural resources for materials and chemicals that can be harmful to humans and the environment it’s becoming more and more important to customers that the cabinets they buy meet or exceed industry set standards for emissions and resource waste.
Additional Trends
Cabinetry trends go beyond just construction, and beyond just the kitchen as well. Some other trends that are gaining ground:
- In-drawer storage systems used throughout the kitchen
- LED lighting inside cabinets and drawers to illuminate contents
- Installing well-built cabinetry in other areas of the home
- Floating vanities in bathrooms
Trends will come and go, and you can’t predict what the next one will be, so let your desires come through when designing your next kitchen. Do what makes you happy and don’t worry so much about what you’ll think in 30+ years. As long as you have tasteful, quality-built cabinets you can’t go wrong.
