Sometimes we get a great idea or maybe that burst of energy and get ahead of ourselves. The last thing you want to do is to start tearing things out before planning your custom bathroom remodel. While some people may think a bathroom remodel is a simple thing it is a lot more complicated than most anticipate. Many DIY (do it yourself) projects can quickly turn into a homeowner’s nightmare. So before starting that bathroom renovation we recommend you do the following four things.

## 4 Things to do Before Starting Your Bathroom Remodel

1. **Set a Budget **- Many people assume that because a bathroom is one of the smallest rooms in the house it is one of the least expensive to renovate. Know what you can afford and price things ahead so you don’t end up with a half finished project until you can afford to finish the rest.
2. **Choose Quality Products** - You may have often heard “You get what you pay for.” Inferior products can lead to water damage and problems down the road. While there may be less expensive cabinetry it may not be the same quality. Do your research and find a company and subcontractor by finding out how they are ranked with the Better Business Bureau or other sites such as [Angie’s List](http://brakur.com/awards-and-affiliations/). Keep in mind if you want a quality cabinet you can’t just run to the store to get it. It takes a few weeks lead-time to order and receive the cabinets.
3. **Plan Your Bathroom Layout **– There are some basic [bathroom guidelines](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/the-basic-rules-of-bathroom-design) we recommend you follow to avoid common bathroom remodeling mistakes.
4. **Choose a Professional **– Whether it is for part or all of the custom bathroom remodel you will want to consult and expert that knows what to do when surprises arise.
