Many of today’s kitchens have become an extension of our living area and are used for everything from paying bills to entertaining our guests. We have seen a lot of changes in kitchen design that make it easier to entertain in the kitchen. There are a variety of specialty features and layouts that will allow you to interact with your guests more freely.  It is not unusual for people to congregate in the kitchen no matter the size of your house.

## Kitchen Design Ideas

- When possible choose an [open layout](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/the-best-things-about-open-kitchens) that extends into the living room and other areas of the home.
- Include a pantry whether it is a walk-in pantry off the kitchen or a pantry cabinet.
- Include specialty refrigeration such as refrigerated drawers and an under counter beverage refrigerator.

- Use warming drawers to keep things warm and maintain the quality of the food you will be serving
- Include a second dishwasher.
- Include an [island](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/does-your-chicagoland-custom-kitchen-need-an-island-or-a-peninsula) with extra seating or a raised peninsula
- Incorporate a flat screen television. This works great so you don’t have to miss the game when you go to get more snacks or food.
- Have a work zone or area for catering staff such as a butler’s pantry
- Include built in beverage station or bar.
- Add a seating nook.
- Include large windows or doors that open to an [outdoor kitchen](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/exciting-news-brakur-and-naturekast-team-up-to-provide-quality-outdoor-custom-kitchens) area.
- Incorporate double ovens or a convection oven so you can bake more things at the same time.
