No one wants extra cleaning to do in the kitchen. If you are going to go to the effort of a custom kitchen remodel you want to make sure your kitchen stays clean and looking new. The many different surfaces in our kitchen are prone to collecting dirt, crumbs, stains, and spills. The cabinets and countertops you choose can either attract or prevent some of these things. There are few things that can make your kitchen easier to maintain and clean from choosing cabinet colors to decorative details.
Tips for Choosing Cabinets
- Choose a flat panel door style or one with minimal detail. Cabinet doors with lots of design tend to collect dust and dirt.
- Choose wood cabinets with a grain such as oak or hickory. A maple cabinet is more smooth and scratches will be more noticeable.
- Consider a full overlay door so the cabinet box is completely covered.
- Get cabinet hardware. Having knobs and pulls on your cabinets will be less wear and tear and will help preserve the cabinet finish.
- Limit the amount of glass door fronts. They look great but the dirt will be more noticeable. Use your glass doors as accents and focal points for your kitchen.
- Limit amount of open shelves and open cabinets. They are more likely to collect dust creating more work.
- Choose a granite or quartz countertop. They are durable and stain resistant.
