Two of the most important decisions you will face when remodeling your Chicagoland kitchen are what color of cabinets do you want and what door style. Both can have a dramatic affect on the overall look of the kitchen. Should you need to sell anytime in the near future it can also affect the resale of your home.
Let’s start with color. While there are many fads that come and go, it’s important to choose a color that your won’t grow tired of. You can always change the color of your walls but it is a lot more expensive to change the color of your cabinets. In the recent Houzz Trends Study they found classic white cabinets are overwhelmingly the hottest and most popular color for kitchens. Nearly half of homeowners are choosing white. Medium wood follows second, but is still quite a distance behind at 20%. The great thing about white cabinets is they never really seem to go out of style for long. If you are concerned about keep them white there are things you can do to prevent white cabinets from discoloring.
Many homeowners aren’t aware of all the different door styles they have to choose from. Your door style many times can be influenced by the style of kitchen you are wanting. While white stood out for cabinet colors the cabinet style was more varied. The most popular door style was shaker at 37%. It is simple and has clean lines and goes well in many contemporary and transitional kitchens. Both raised panel and glass door fronts were also popular. The Least favorite was recessed panel doors.
