Have you ever wondered if your kitchen is working against you when it comes to your waistline? Brian Wansing and eating behavior expert suggests that there are some ways to design your kitchen that will help you lose weight. The environment and design of your kitchen can actually help promote a healthier lifestyle so you are not left to your own willpower.
- Out of sight, out of mind - Remove food from the counter, unless it is a healthy option such as fruit. A recent study showed people are more likely to eat food when it is visible. For example a person with a box of cereal always visible tended to weigh 20 lbs. more than there neighbor who had the cereal out of sight.
- Alleviate the clutter - Not only do you feel better, but also people who live in cluttered environments eat 44 percent more snacks. We have many unique storage ideas that cannot only get rid of the clutter, but help you also increase your counter space.
- Eat in the dining room - You are farther from the food and have to walk back to get more.
- Make it easier to cook - Consider the layout of your kitchen and where you put your appliances. The accessibility of food prep, bright lights, and music tend to encourage people to cook at home in lieu of eating out.
- Arrange your food - Organize your pantry and fridge so the first thing you see is healthy food options. As a bonus having an organized pantry can save you time and money.
While there is no quick solution to losing weight there are things you can do in the kitchen to help promote weight loss. If this is a concern be sure to mention it to our kitchen design experts.
