No one wants to spend a lot of money on a kitchen that will be outdated in just a few years. So what kitchen trends are staying popular and not going out of style?
A recent Houzz study found that homeowners are more concerned with the color of their cabinets, storage and appliances. They are not so concerned with technology beyond having an Ipad and flat screen television in the kitchen. Most homeowners want a pull out trashcan, recycling bins, more storage and new appliances and kitchen cabinets.
The study also found depending on where you live dictates the type of appliances that are most important for the kitchen. Most homeowners could care less about having remote control access from their phone to control their oven or refrigerator. They would rather put their money in upgraded cabinets and get everything new.
Kitchen Trends With Staying Power
- Open Kitchens – almost 48% of homeowners want their kitchen open to other areas of the home. Another 18% want kitchens open to outdoor spaces.
- Kitchen Layouts - The U-Shaped kitchen layout is the most popular with the L-Shaped kitchen layout coming in not far behind. Homeowners who already have these layouts are more likely to keep them.
- Replacing Basics and Adding Special Features - Most homeowners are adding built-in pantry storage to their list of desired kitchen cabinets. Most are replacing the basics such as sinks, faucets, appliances, and countertops.
- Kitchen Colors - White seems to be the most popular kitchen cabinet color that stands the test of time. Other popular colors are beige and gray. Most homeowners want a multicolored backsplash and countertops.
- Storage – 67% of people who are in the process of updating cabinets are including a pull-out trash or recycling cabinet. Other popular storage items are cookie sheet dividers and a lazy Susan.
