Discussing and determining a budget for your upcoming kitchen or bathroom remodel can sometimes be an uncomfortable conversation. One because no one wants to admit they can’t afford something and two you may not want to let your significant other down and want them to have the best. Most companies want you to have that kitchen or bath you have always dreamed of, but they can’t give it away either.
Over the years at Brakur Custom Cabinetry we have learned to work with all types of budgets and can help you not only determine your budget but also stick to your budget. We recommend you do a few things to help ensure you are able to afford and can get that dream kitchen.
Budget Tips
- Plan early – Be upfront and honest with your kitchen and bath designer. It is much easier if they know upfront what you can afford and will help you identify those upgrades that are necessary and those you can live without or even add at a later time.
- Be realistic – There are a lot of things you may want but don’t necessarily need. Who wouldn’t love a subzero refrigerator but it is not worth the extra money if you don’t have it. There are all kinds of deals on the Internet. Realize that you get what you pay for. While there may be cheaper options they are not always the same quality. If it sounds too good to be true chances are it is.
- Get accurate quotes – Make sure the quotes you are receiving include everything from cabinets to installation. At Brakur you will know exactly what your kitchen and bath remodel project will cost. Some companies leave out labor costs in an effort to gain your business. Know what your quote covers and what it does not. For example you will pay the plumber separate from the cabinet company.
- Understand Pricing – Know that quotes are only good for a certain period of time. If you had a quote a couple of years ago you will need to get a new quote as prices change. Also know that things can cost more or less depending on where you live in the country.
- Have a 20 percent contingency - It’s important that you plan for the unexpected and add 20 percent to your budget for extra things that may come up. This is not to be spent for your upgrades or adding extra things to your kitchen. Then if something does happen there is money set aside for it. If you end up not needing it then you are ahead and can use it for another home renovation project.
