With any goal it is something that takes planning and just doesn’t happen on its own. If you are to achieve something there is a thought process that has to occur and a certain level of commitment if you are going to achieve those resolutions.

The beginning of the year is a perfect time to remodel your Chicagoland kitchen. After all, the [kitchen is the heart of the home](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/how-to-make-your-kitchen-the-heart-of-the-home) and so many of those other resolutions hinge on how your kitchen is organized and functions. There are some goals you will want to include in your kitchen remodel that will help keep you satisfied for years to come.

1. **Choose the **[**right layout**](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/the-5-most-common-kitchen-layouts)**/ design** –Your kitchen design expert can help you decide which layout will work best for your home. Sometimes we end up creating traffic jams in the kitchen because we aren’t realistic and try to cram too much in. You will want to include those that will give you the best return on your investment and affect the overall function of your kitchen.
3. **Maximize storage space and **[**alleviate clutter**](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/gain-more-counter-space-and-alleviate-the-clutter-unique-storage-ideas)- There are so many unique storage options that can be utilized to help your home function better and make it easier to work and find things in the kitchen.  Organization is the key to a well functioning kitchen.
4. **Have designated **[**work zones**](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/triangle-vs.-work-zone-what%E2%80%99s-the-difference) - You want to make sure that you are prepared to have access to the things you need in the areas of the kitchen that certain tasks will occur. It just takes planning and making your kitchen designer aware of the different activities that occur in your kitchen.
5. **Stay within your **[**budget**](https://blog.brakur.com/blog/budgeting-where-should-the-money-go-in-a-remodel) – Learn where the money should go in a remodel. Too many times we get carried away and end up spending for things we really can’t afford and it creates a bigger problem.
